Super Bowl XXV – Remembering Whitney Houston

In 1991 the entire nation stopped for a moment in time that will never be forgotten. It was the unforgettable Super Bowl National Anthem sung by the one and only Whitney Houston. NFL Super Bowl players have to have football confidence to be playing in a Super Bowl. On this night, Ms. Whitley Houston had singing confidence, a passion and heart for her country and the Super Bowl players and fans. In addition, the entire nation was watching this outstanding performance.

It was a moment in time that stopped all of us in our tracks. Still today in 2012, Ms. Houston’s singing of the National Anthem on that night in Tampa, Florida goes down in history as the most prolific and amazing rendition of the National Anthem ever to have been sung. It was a time that gave the players a football mind due to the motivation it brought and it was a time that gave the fans a reason to believe in a country that had just gone to war.

Quite simply it was amazing. It has become a hit today and goes down in YouTube history as the most downloaded song on the website to date. The players that played that night were given by Ms. Houston a shared mental preparation for football as witnessed by her mindset for her singing, her heart and her country. As far as getting psych up to play the game, Ms. Houston gave the best possible example of this with the performance she gave of the National Anthem.

In her red, white and blue warm-up suit, to her reaching for the sky, she hit every note and every word with a clarity and a tone that soothed and motivated the soul of every single person that was there in person and that was home watching T.V.; not to mention the troops overseas who were watching.

It was a motivating moment not only for the players but for the coaches, the fans, the people of this country and the troops. It was the perfect example of what “playing with your heart, your soul and with confidence” can do for those around you; not just in that moment but in years and years to come.

Ms. Whitney Houston died at age 48 just recently and what a tragedy it was. Not only did the country lose a beautiful voice and person but we lost a woman with a beautiful heart and passion for those around her, no matter how near or far. This was clearly exhibited as she sang that chilly January night in Tampa, Florida at Super Bowl 1991.

Whitney we love you. May you rest in peace.
