Off-Season Makeover – Building Character

Part II of IV – Responsibility and Fairness

If you are an NFL player then you understand the importance of having a football mind that displays responsibility and fairness. With the exposure that you get as an NFL player not only all the adults in the stadium are watching the television, but also the young people who are watching you to. Therefore, it is important to the NFL and your fans to have a strong sense of responsibility and fairness.

Why are these two traits so important for an NFL player to have? As already mentioned it’s not for the adults only, but for the kids that are watching. In addition a lack of responsibility and/or fairness can be damaging to you as a player which may result in you being traded or simply just let go.

Responsibility as an NFL player means to go to all the practices and be on time if not early. It means apologizing when necessary. It means treating yourself, family and teammates in a positive, confident value centered manner. It means being a positive member of the community you reside in. It means being a positive role model. It means following the team and league rules. Psychology in football plays a large part in assisting you with this mentality and ability.

In addition treating others and yourself in a fair manner is vitally important to your growth as an NFL player and person. If a player takes over your position because the coaches believe that he is more talented and can produce better results for the team then you need to treat him as well as the coaches fairly. By the same token you can also improve your play by treating yourself fairly and building up your football mentality and football confidence and earn your starting spot back. But if you lash out at the coaches and treat them is a manner that is not fair then you probably are going to have an even harder time of earning your spot back.

Football psychology can help you develop a confidence and the mentality that will develop you more and more into an NFL player that is a perfect example of what the National Football League and coaches are looking for.
