It is Time to Assess Your Mental Game

“Football is football and talent is talent. But the mindset of your team makes all the difference.” – Robert Griffin III

mental-toughness-assessmentThe end of the year and the beginning of the next year symbolizes the ushering out of the old to make way for the new.

This is the ideal time for athletes that want to work on their football mental game to reflect upon their accomplishments over the past year, where they stand at the moment and where they want to be within a year’s time.

When left to its own accord the football mind tends not to take unconscious steps towards helping an athlete build up and strengthen their overall state of football confidence. It is almost as if the mind is working towards its own agenda; more often than not that agenda does not have the same goals as the athlete.

This is why an assessment grants the athlete the opportunity to take a pause to focus and realign their goals and shortcomings in regards to their mental game in football.

While certain seasoned athletes may possess the knowledge and the self-awareness of their own psychology in football, which evidently comes from experience, most athletes are not capable of obtaining a clear insight into their own mental shortcoming.

While a knowledgeable coach, supportive teammates or parents may be able to offer up some beneficial guidance to an athlete, the biggest improvements on mental toughness and insights into how an athlete can improve their game, tends to materialize when working with an experienced mental game coach.

There are many indicators that are used to determine and build an individual athlete’s personalized assessment. A mental game coach will look into such things as:

– Does the athlete lose focus or have mental lapses during critical times during the game?
– Does the athlete have a fear of success which leads to sabotaging them self when winning?
– Does the athlete work on their mechanics and technique when competing?

These are only a small snippet of the areas that are looked into; with each answer revealing an area that is to be worked on and in a manner that will be beneficial to the individual athlete.

After all, no two football minds are alike.

I have been helping athletes reach their peak performance by tapping into my academic knowledge as well as my personal experiences from the time I competed myself.

This combination means the athlete will benefit from the understanding that they will be guided by someone that has been through the ups and downs that come from striving and achieving their own peak performance.
