Worrying about what others think can hurt your performance? Ruminating about the darker side of a life event can fuel depression and anxiety. A study by Yale University Psychologist Susan Nolen-Hoeksema shows that athlete’s gets easily distracted by what their coach, teammates, or spectators are thinking. Wasting brain power ruminating about things you can’t control drains mental energy quickly. You will be unable to completely focus on what you need to do and you may under-perform or have unwanted emotions such as anxiety or sadness.
