Comparing yourself to others can hinder your progress? Research on Olympic athletes by sport psychologist Jonathan Fader shows that comparing yourself to other athlete’s success affects your performance and holds you back—whether or not you are an elite athlete. This is usually done in a negative way where you focus on what the opponent is doing right and what you are doing wrong. If you use others as a benchmark to evaluate yourself, that creeping twinge of jealousy may undermine our ability and decreases your self-confidence.
