“My success is the outcome of my work. I am willing to do the work.” Delice Coffey
Now that it’s the beginning of the New Year, it’s time to focus on yourself, where you are, and where you want to go with your football mental game.
As an athlete, the beginning of the New Year is a good time to assess the progress you’ve made toward achieving your football goals, along with how far you still have to go.
Each year represents unique challenges. It is a perfect time for reflection and set new goals.
Assess Your Mental Game
First, take a moment to think about your current football mental game and where you want to go. Do this by allowing yourself to unwind your mind without thinking about anything too serious. After taking some time to think about your football mental game, find a quiet place and think about where you see yourself in the future.
Even if you do believe that you are on the right path to achieving your goals, there may be some adjustments you can make to develop your football confidence even more.
Your time off is the perfect time to re-assess where you are right now and where you’re going.
Why It’s Important
Assessing where you are can be helpful in a myriad of ways. These assessments are useful in identifying the current state of your mental game. In addition to informing the various types of interventions that may be helpful, these types of assessments also play a critical role in developing your football mental toughness.
These assessments can be helpful in identifying areas of your mental game that are not strong enough to help you reach your full potential.
Mental game assessments can foster a number of skills, such as success reflection, positive thinking, and self-talk – as well as giving insight into the process.
At the end of the day, taking some time to think about why, what, and how you’re going to assess your mental game is a worthwhile investment of time.
It can help ensure you’re assessing the skills that you intended and it could open up new possibilities for you.
