JR’s Journey: From Anxiety to Achievement
JR was one of the top high school basketball players in the area. He had the speed, skill, and work ethic that set him apart on the court. But off the court, JR carried a burden most people never saw.
Anxiety followed him everywhere—before games, during practices, even at home. And home was complicated. His parents were never married, and although both loved him, the tension between them often left JR feeling caught in the middle. He juggled it all: the pressure to perform, the emotional weight of his family situation, and the silent struggle with his own anxiety.
When JR connected with Dr. Coffey, he discovered something he didn’t even realize he needed—support for his whole self, not just his game.
Learning the Tools to Thrive
During sessions with Dr. Coffey, JR learned practical strategies to manage his anxiety—breathing exercises to calm his mind before games, mental focus techniques to block distractions, and new ways to express his feelings instead of bottling them up.
Gradually, things started to change. His relationship with his father greatly improved; they began to connect in a way they never had before. His relationship with his mother became more manageable—far from perfect, but filled with more peace and understanding than it had been earlier.
From High School Star to Professional Athlete
With his anxiety finally more manageable thanks to mental performance training and support for his mental health, JR’s confidence skyrocketed. His love for the game reignited stronger than ever, and his talent propelled him all the way to a professional basketball career overseas, a dream he once feared anxiety and personal struggles might steal from him.
Today, JR talks about Dr. Coffey as the turning point that changed his life—not just his game.
