“Mentally, the only player who survives in the pros are the ones able to manage all responsibilities.” Tom Brady
When a player is playing in the zone in a football game you might wonder, how can he make everything look so easy?
That’s an interesting question.
For a player to get and stay in the zone; meaning they are making good plays consistently, they are not allowing distractions to enter their mind, they are totally immersed in the moment, and their performance is outstanding.
This level of playing requires a sharp football mind and football mental toughness that was developed over time with consistent practice, dedication, and self-motivation.
It is a state where you know you have trained hard mentally and physically, and you totally trust your skills and abilities to perform.
If a player who is playing in the zone is not solid in his mental toughness, any number of small variables can throw him off his game, and he will no longer be playing effortlessly.
To stay in the zone, players must have:
• A strong mental game
• A laser-like focus on the present
• High confidence
• Automatic performance
• Trust in your skills and abilities
• Feeling of control
• Be fearless
To achieve this, you must make a daily commitment to develop all areas of your mental and physical game. This will take consistent practice and dedication every day.
You must learn to stay relaxed and visualize the perfect performance before each game. This will enhance your performance and maximize your potential.
You cannot be influenced by distractions or the “wrong” call and allow it to penetrate your mind.
Staying in the zone is not an easy thing to do on any level, but it can be achieved.
With hard work, dedication, and self-motivation to both mental and physical training, you can achieve zone like focus and stay in the zone longer.
