Improving Skills through Football Psychology

If you are a football player, on any level and want to improve your skills then without a doubt football psychology can assist you with this in a big way. Football psychology will help you to improve your football mind as well as your football confidence. It is a place where you can go and talk freely about the things you feel are interfering with you reaching your full potential as a player. There is nothing that is off limits when working with a mental game coach when the goal is to help you reach peak performance.

If you find that you lack confidence and your ability to focus is causing you to not play at your optimal potential, discussing this with a mental game coach, will help you learn ways to improve your football confidence which in turn will help you reach peak performance.

Football psychology can also help you to overcome fears. Fear of not making good passes, fear of getting a bad hit, fear of not hitting hard enough, fear of not making a successful tackle, and the list of fears goes on and on. You can overcome these fears by improving your football mind as well as your football confidence.

Attitude is another aspect of football that can be improved through football psychology. This is critical to attaining consistent success on the field.  If you carry within yourself, as a player, a positive, motivating and encouraging attitude this will translate into better plays on the field. If you find yourself struggling with a self-defeating and negative attitude then your game will be off. A mental game coach can assist you in identifying your strengths, abilities and skills. This will build an attitude within yourself that will be positive and motivating.

Lastly, being goal oriented is something that a mental game coach can assist you with that will serve to improve all aspects of your psychological make-up towards the game. If you do not have any goals to shot for or they are unrealistic or on the other hand to easy then you deprive yourself of an incredibly motivating action. By setting game goals, personal goals as well as practice goals you will remain more focused, concentration will improve and your success on the field will improve.

Below are some samples of a few mental exercises that will improve your football mind. Once you can do these exercises without distractions going through your head, you will be at a point where you can concentration and focus at will. Once you have master these exercises and implement a few other skills and exercises; when you set your mind to focus and/or concentrate on a play with a desire outcome it will happen.

Tips to sharpen your football mind.

1. Choose a word or a sound that motivates you. Repeat it in your mind for 5 minutes. When you have successful completed 5 minutes without interruptions (this may take weeks), increase to 10 minutes. Do this daily until you can do it consistently do 10 minutes without any interruptions. Once you can do it consistently, continue to do it daily. Now you sharpen your ability to are concentrate!

2. Take one piece of your football equipment. Concentrate on that one piece. Look at the chosen piece without thinking about anything else. Block out all words about the piece of equipment that may go through mind. Once you can do it consistently for a period of time (10 minutes) you have sharpen your ability to focus!

3. Take your football and put it in your hands. Examine  the football all the way around, while keeping your attention focused on just the football. Do not let yourself be carried off by other thoughts or sounds. Stay calm, breathe deeply and ignore everything around you. Focus all your attention on the football for 10 minutes a day. Once you can do it consistently you have sharpen your ability to concentrate and focus!
